About the Authors
Dawn Drury Nix
Dawn Drury Nix, BSN, RN, BA, is a native of Clinton, Louisiana, and a cofounder of RNvention, LLC. She holds two degrees from Louisiana State University: a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in French studies and a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Nix has extensive experience in neonatal and pediatric services, working in specialties including pediatric emergency room, pediatric intensive and cardiac care units, and neonatal intensive care, where she currently practices nursing. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. A skilled educator, Nix serves as a neonatal intensive care unit preceptor and currently aids the management and educational programming of clinical rotations. With her husband, Wayne, she fulfills a chief operating officer role for RNvention and continues to spearhead marketing awareness and outreach efforts for The MultiNix utility tool.
Wayne Nix
Wayne Nix, MBA, RN, RRT has a mission to innovate! Working in healthcare for over twenty years, he and his wife, Dawn, formed their company, RNvention, LLC, to promote this passion. Nix possesses several degrees, including a master's in business administration, nursing, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapy. He specialized most of his clinical career in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, as well as fulfilling several leadership and administrative roles. He also served in the Army National Guard, to which he attributes learning his discipline, grit, and resilience skills. In 2015, Nix received investment funding and over a span of three years, obtained one utility patent, secured two trademarks, won several pitch events, and is currently working to license his product, The MultiNix Tool, a utility tool for nurses. He has consulted on topics such as innovation, commercialization, manufacturing, pitching, business startup advice, event speaking, and select marketing services. Nix can be followed @RNvention.
Brian Weirich
Dr. Brian Weirich, DHA, RN, MHA, CENP, is a chief nursing officer for Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital and a startup founder. As an innovator with healthcare roles at five nationally ranked health systems, he has worked with some of the world's leading healthcare experts. Dr. Weirich is passionate about reimagining the current state of healthcare, specifically, uniting technology and clinicians to ensure improved patient safety and outcomes. In 2014, he became active at the state and national level by holding board positions and driving industry changes. He is an author/speaker championing the importance of the millennial "tech" generation. In 2017, Dr. Weirich began exploring artificial intelligence and crowdsourcing, as well as the benefits of the gig economy to solve workforce problems. This passion spawned two startup companies that leverage technology to eliminate medication errors and increase access to care. He is a recipient of the Advancement in Medicine grant from the IU School of Medicine and is a founding member of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs & Leaders. About the Authors |
Bonnie Clipper
Dr. Bonnie Clipper, DNP, RN, MA, MBA, CENP, FACHE, is the chief clinical officer at Wambi, an employee engagement and patient empowerment platform. She was previously the vice president of innovation at the American Nurses Association. She has spent more than twenty years in executive nursing roles and transitioning over the past four years to focus on innovation. She speaks internationally on topics of innovation and emerging technologies impacting nursing. Dr. Clipper is a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow alumna and an ASU/AONE Executive Fellow in Health Innovation Leadership alumna. Her research interests include building cultures of innovation and importing the voice of the nurse into the design and development of technology. She has published on the impact of robots on nursing practice, authoring the book, The Nurse Manager's Guide to an Intergenerational Workforce, and co-authoring, The Innovation Roadmap: A Guide for Nurse Leaders. Michael Wang
Michael Wang, MSN, RN, APRN, is the CEO and founder of Inspiren, an award-winning healthcare technology company. After serving honorably in the United States Army, he returned to school to become a nurse and ultimately, a nurse practitioner. Wang held numerous roles at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and has vast clinical experience in cardiothoracic surgery and direct patient care. In addition, he holds numerous patents on innovative technologies in both the healthcare and hospitality industry and has founded two successful companies prior to Inspiren. Wang received a bachelor's degree from Emory University, majoring in biology and sociology. He attended graduate school at Columbia University, studying both business and nursing. In 2018, Wang was awarded Fast Company's Innovation by Design Award for his work in leading the creation of iN, Inspiren's flagship solution.

Paul Coyne
Dr. Paul Coyne, DNP, RN, MBA, MS, APRN, AGPCNP-BC was forced out on disability from his career at Goldman Sachs after the residual effects of a stroke at the age of twenty-six. He then decided to transition into a career in healthcare. His vast work experience spans from serving as manager of analytics at New York-Presbyterian Hospital to leading Advanced Practice Nursing and Clinical Informatics at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Paul Coyne is now a board-certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner and president and co-founder of Inspiren, an award-winning healthcare technology company. His success has been recognized nationally, including him being named to Becker's Rising Stars, Healthcare Leaders Under 40, in 2018. Dr. Coyne holds a doctorate, a master's, and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Columbia University, an MBA in healthcare management, a master's in finance from Northeastern University, and a bachelor of arts degree from Providence College. Vince Baiera
Vince Baiera, BSN, started his nursing career at The Cleveland Clinic in the Cardiovascular ICU. He then went on to work at Duke University Hospital in the Cardiothoracic ICU before starting to work as a traveling nurse. After traveling the country working as an ICU nurse, Baiera started teaching at Central Nursing College in both theory and clinical rotations. He then transitioned to the business side of healthcare and now works with Straightaway, a software and e-learning company in Long Term Care. Baiera also started his own product development company called Baiera Wellness Products, where the goal is to find innovative ways to serve the many. After his first product, the step2bed™, became a nationwide hit, Baiera began expanding his product offering to focus on products for seniors to help promote wellness and aging-in-place. Rebecca Love
Rebecca Love, MSN, RN, FIEL, is a nurse entrepreneur, inventor, and TedX speaker and was the first nurse featured on Ted.com and a part of the inaugural nursing panel at SXSW 2018. Rebecca was the first director of Nurse Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the United States at Northeastern School of Nursing, the founding initiative in the country designed to empower nurses as innovators and entrepreneurs. Love also founded the Nurse Hackathon, a movement that has led to transformational change in the nursing profession. She is an experienced nurse entrepreneur, founding HireNurses.com in 2013, which was acquired in 2018. She currently serves as the managing director of US markets for Ryalto.
